MGB Contribute to North London Lines Commissioning Success
MGB – Major Contributor to the Successful Commissioning of the First Phase of the North London Line Scheme. Gospel Oak to Barking Signalling Enhancements Project, commissioned December 2009. In order to achieve major increases in both passenger and freight capacity requirements for the 2012 London Olympics; Transport for London (TfL) has appointed Network Rail to develop a series of route enhancements across all areas of the North London rail network. As part of these works the North London Line (NLL) from Willesden to Stratford and its principle branch line, the former Tottenham and Hampstead line between Gospel Oak and Barking, are being upgraded with a series of renewals and enhancements. The Gospel Oak to Barking section of line was upgraded ahead of the main NLL scheme in order to allow it to be utilised as a freight diversionary route during the main Willesden to Stratford construction works. MGB Signalling Ltd played a major role in the recent successful delivery of this key phase of the NLL scheme. Working alongside Jacobs Engineering Ltd, MGB provided both design and manufacturing resources for all of the new signalling locations and the new Route Relay Interlocking at Harringay Park. In addition to this, the Plymouth based team also provided the design for the new NX Control and Indication panel for South Tottenham S.B., the GEC Geographical fringe interface to Kings Cross and various other elements of the core signalling design. The project renewed the signalling between Upper Holloway and Wanstead Park (via South Tottenham), and included a Geographical fringe to Kings Cross and the SSI interface to Liverpool Street IECC. The existing mechanical signal box at Harringay Park Junction was abolished and replaced with a new Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) REB with the control of the line shared between Upper Holloway and South Tottenham signal boxes. The key elements of the project were:- · The closure of Harringay Park Signal Box and transfer of control to the new NX panel at South Tottenham. · The provision of a new Remote Interlocking REB at Harringay Park and its associated TDM transmission link to South Tottenham. · The abolition of existing semaphore signalling to achieve a consistent aspect sequence. · The provision of new LED signals. · The abolition of old Axle Counter sections and the provision of track circuits throughout. · The recovery of the existing slot controls between Kings Cross and Harringay Park and the replacement with a new controls between Kings Cross and South Tottenham. · The recovery of the old Block Bell circuits between Upper Holloway and South Tottenham (including the fringe to Kings Cross) and subsequent replacement with new Train Describer systems. · The SSI and IECC Screen changes at Liverpool Street to accommodate the fringe interface changes in the Wanstead Park area. · The renewal of 36 lineside location cabinets and 1 interlocking REB.
