Ian Markham - Engineering Director
Ian Markham joined MGB in 2008 and holds the position of Engineering Director. He has over 28 years experience in railway signalling and systems engineering, ranging from hands-on engineering through to senior engineering management. Having started in the Rail industry with British Rail, including periods in schemes development and new works design and testing, he later gained experience with major contractors and more recently in consulting.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers and in 2000 gained a Masters degree in Railway Systems Engineering from the University of Sheffield. For many years, Ian has been involved with developing engineering processes with the aim of improving efficiency and ensuring a compliant output. His work has included being part of a global team seeking ways to achieve cross-country common processes whilst taking into account the nuances of specific country and rail administration requirements.
In addition to engineering management, Ian has also held business management positions requiring the inclusion of project and commercial management within his teams. The responsibility for business targets has provided Ian with the experience of balancing financial and business demands with the overarching requirement to deliver safe and compliant engineering solutions. Ian is responsible for maintaining high standards of technical competence in the business and developing our overall engineering capability.
